Registration requirements
If you wish to secure a domain name, in some cases it is not as simple as seeing if the domain name is available and then buying it through the corresponding registry. Some registries will only allow you to purchase domain names with particular suffixes if you meet certain requirements. For example, at present you are only allowed to purchase a .cn domain name if you live in China or if your company has a base there.
There are also other types of restrictions for various suffixes, some of which are listed below:
- You can only register domain names which exactly match your trademarks
- Your technical servers must be based in the country of registration
NetNames is able to provide you with a wealth of information and advice about different restrictions. In many cases we will also be able to help you secure domain names with the suffixes you require, despite the restrictions, because of the excellent relationships that we have with hundreds of registries across the globe.
