GoDaddy loses the Wikipedia domain portfolio

Despite the reversal of GoDaddy with regards to their support of the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act bill, Jimmy Wales – co-founder of Wikipedia – announced in a Tweet on 23 December that his company will regardless pull its domains away from the world’s biggest registrar.

“I am proud to announce that the Wikipedia domain names will move away from GoDaddy. Their position on sopa is unacceptable to us.”

Jimmy Wales later disclosed that they won’t reverse their decision, stating that GoDaddy's “support [of SOPA] was not incidental.”
