Background of dotBet


NetNames has been given notice that Afilias plan to open the dotBet new Top Level Domain registry on the 5th January 2016. The dotBet gTLD will be supported by Verisign as the back-end provider. The dotBet TLD will offer the following registration periods:

Trademark Sunrise 19th January 2016 to 19th February 2016 ✔
Dutch Auction Landrush 8th February 2016 to 12th February 2016 ✔
General Availability 23rd February 2016 onwards ✔

The registry will be offering Sunrise registrations to all Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) verified mark holders. Sunrise orders can be placed via your NetNames Domain Management Portal or via your Account Manager. Should you still wish to place any trademarks with the TMCH, please contact your Account Manager.

Registration Info

  • Registrations can be for 3 to 63 characters;
  • The TLD will not support IDN registrations initially;
  • The TLD is not eligible for blocking under the Domains Protected Marks List (DPML) rights protection mechanism;
  • Landrush will follow a “Dutch auction” format. All names will start at a maximum established price on the Landrush start date. Over the duration of Landrush, the price will be lowered in decrements daily as registrants decide at what price point they wish to register. The price reduction will occur at 16:00 UTC daily. Landrush will end at 23:59 on February 12:
